This discussion centres on the need for cities to make market and how it would be possible to create a frame work for digital innovation and success.

Cities can play a key enabling role for enterprises looking to capture a digital lead. This can range from making data available to playing a part in creating the information Market Place.

Simon argues that much like the way Apple’s app store and iTunes created a market, the same opportunity is available to cities and is potentially the missing link in smart city inward investment.
In this interview Sean Dolan - SVP EMEA, Juniper Networks talks about how technology is now front office and a key discussion in the boardroom for any organisation serious about competing in the second digital age.

He touches on the role of the network as a fundamental element in the world of cloud computing and in an age where products and services have the potential to be global from day one. This also changes the demands on technology such as the need to market with intelligence to customers in real time.

The other trend discussed was the consumerisation of technology, while enterprises encourage employees to bring their own devices to work this creates issues for security and a new end to end approach focused on securing the data across all channels is needed.
In this interview Paul Coby -- IT Director for John Lewis explains how theirs and arguably all businesses are increasingly social media and mobile businesses.

The interview touched on changing customer behaviour in a hyper-connected society and how this requires a different view of how the technology and business function combine to create a digitally enabled enterprise.

To create these connections and build digital enterprises, new skills are to be combined with a change in perception of the role of IT in the enterprise.

Closing The Gap Between IT And Productivity

Productivity is one of those things that is easy to define, yet almost impossible to determine. In mathematical terms it concerns a ratio between the quantity of output and the amount of effort to deliver it. As both can be defined in financial terms - an output has a financial value, and effort comes at a cost - it is straightforward to calculate a productivity factor. If it remains above 1, then things are looking good.

To Protect Or Not To Protect

As the use of social media increases exponentially so does the information held on these networks not just about our online behaviour but who we know and how we interact with them. This depth of knowledge has played no small part in helping Facebook become a 100bn dollar company in just eight years. Tapping into this Social Graph is the basis of social commerce which many believe is just in its infancy, but privacy and data concerns are fast emerging which will need to be addressed. In this short discussion Alpesh Doshi from Fintricity argues the need to protect your social graph.

Let Us Augment Your Reality

Reality can be dull, so who wouldn't want to spice it up a bit? The phrase "augmented reality" (AR) distils all that could be hoped from technology - it might as well be called, "reality, just that bit better," like a technological pill to brighten the mundane. But does AR sufficiently merit its name? While it is still very much in the experimental stages, we are starting to see some real applications.
